Author escaped from prison in about 1919 after serving only 13 months of a 30 year sentence for murder. He spent the next 15 years using an alias, Frank Davis. He was baptized in the Holy Spirit in 1924, attended Glad Tidings Bible Institute, and was credentialed by the AG as a minister in 1925. In 1935, Smith acknowledged his true identity and Missouri Governor Park commuted his sentence.
