Description:
|
Gospel Tract Society, a nondenominational publishing house, was started in Springfield, MO by Lester L. Buttram, an AG layman. Tracts were undated. A Springfield post office box indicates a tract was probably published between 1926 and the mid-1940s. An address of 1523 Irving St or 1622 N. Broadway indicates a tract was published circa late 1940s to 1954. Gospel Tract Society moved to Kansas City, MO in 1954, to Lee's Summit, MO in the 1960s, and to Independence, MO in 1974. Leadership remained in the family: Lester Buttram (1926-1990); Ethel Buttram (Lester's widow) (1990-1992); David Buttram (Lester's son) (1992-2006); Tom Buttram (David's younger brother) (2006-2014); and Phillip Buttram (Tom's younger brother) (2014- ). They were active members of AG churches.
