Description:

The Appalachian District was formed at Ronda, West Virginia, on June 14, 1921. The region had formerly been a part of the Maryland District. Southwestern Virginia became part of the district in July of 1923. At that time the district was known as the Southwest Virginia, Western West Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky District. In 1929 the name was changed to the Appalachian District Council. In August 1935 Kentucky withdrew and became a district of its own. In September of 1935 the western part of North Carolina became a part of the district and remained until August 1944 when it withdrew to become part of the North Carolina District. That left Western West Virginia and South Western Virginia to form the Appalachian District. These boundaries continue to exist today.

Superseded by: Appalachian messenger.

Holdings: 6:12 (Sep 1933); (Apr 1935) (incomplete)
