Description:
|
Metal pin, gold lettering on black background. Center--NRB, Bertermann Defender; around edge--NRB Eugene R. Bertermann Legal Defense Fund.
Eugene Rudolph Bertermann (1914-1983) was a Lutheran who was long associated with The Lutheran Hour and other endeavors. He was active with the National Religious Broadcasters for many years and served as president 1957-1975. He was one of the leaders in efforts toward guaranteeing religious freedom in broadcasting, including efforts to ensure that liberal organizations, such as the National Council of Churches, were not allowed to monopolize religious broadcasting. This pin apparently stems from such efforts, indicating that the NRB set up a legal fund in his name. There is no date attached.
The Assemblies of God were also involved in the NRB.
