Description:

James Logan Delk (1887-1963), circus performer, evangelist associated with the Baptists, Nazarenes, and finally with the Church of God in Christ. Delk was possibly the most visible white minister associated with the largely Afro-American COGIC. Among other things, Delk claimed responsibility for the erection of Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee. The news clippings indicate that he had some run-ins with the law, served some time in prison, and ran for political offices in Kentucky and Missouri.
