Willie Mae Ford Smith was one of the earliest artists to combine jazz and other musical styles into gospel music. She made a significant impression on the development of many of the most noted black gospel artists of the mid-twentieth century. She shunned commercialism; in spite of her appeal and influence, This was her first album--recorded at 67 years old.
In her earlier years, Willie Mae Ford Smith was a member of the National Baptist Convention (Black). In her early thirties, she converted to Oneness Pentecostalism. For many years, she was a member and ordained minister with the Lively Stone Church of God (Apostolic Faith) in St. Louis.
