Description:
|
Plaque consists of a metal (possibly copper) stand, 9.5 x 11.7 cm., on which is fastened a bronze emblem for the hospital, 5.5 x 7 cm. Emblem has an image in the center of a serpent wrapped around a cross; around the edge is 'Assembly of God Hospital & Research Centre;' at bottom is 'Jesus Heals.' Metal plaque is attached to a wooden base, 12 cm. diameter.
Item is not dated, but is likely from the dedication of the hospital in 1977 (see ID: 59189). It was later known as Mercy Hospital.
Mark and Huldah Buntain began missionary work in Calcutta in 1954. In addition to the establishment of a church, they were involved in many humanitarian ministries, including health care. A clinic had been established by the early 1970s, leading to the building of a 120 bed hospital in 1977.
