Description:
|
Myer Pearlman was a Jewish Christian who became one of the leading Bible teachers and theologians of the young Assemblies of God. He emigrated to the United States in 1915 and converted to Christianity sometime after WWI. He graduated from Central Bible Institute (Springfield, MO) in 1925 and began teaching there soon afterward.
It is believed that Pearlman brought this small scroll with him when he moved to the U.S. from England. He used it when he taught at Central Bible Institute. About 1935, he gave the scroll to Rollin Burns, who succeeded him in teaching Hebrew at C.B.I. Burns kept the scroll for many years. In 1981, Burns gave the scroll to Irene Pearlman, the widow of Myer Pearlman. Mrs. Pearlman gave the scroll to Wayne Warner for the AG archives.
The scroll contains the Torah, or Pentateuch, in Hebrew. It is in unpointed Hebrew text, meaning there are no vowel 'points' or indicators, present.
The scroll is kept in a green cloth pouch. There are also a note and a letter (from Rollin Burns) concerning the history of the scroll.
The scroll consists of a number of sections (app. 38 in. each) glued together.
