Description:

Description: Portrait of Taylor H. Davis (left) and George E. Smith (right) during the time they were copastors of New Life Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, circa 1972.

They copastored Bethel Temple when they merged in December 1971. George was originally pastor of Suburban Hills Assembly in Tulsa, which started in 1954. George took the church in 1965 and it outgrew its location. Bethel Temple was founded in 1942 and was located at 12th and Boulder, in downtown Tulsa. Davis was the pastor that helped the church grow, and he moved it to 41st and Harvard to a building built by Bethany Lutheran. When the two congregations merged, they gave the congregation a new name, 'New Life Center.' The two men pastored it together for only one year, until Vern McNally was elected in 1972.
