Description:

Author's note: 'This account is based largely on the oral history passed on to me by my parents, Otto and Carrie Steffler; Mama's brother John Onstad; Mama's cousin, Alma Haugsjaa; my sisters, Norma, Mae [Carlson], Mildred and Margaret; my brother-in-law G. Raymond Carlson, whose incredible memory can only be described as phenomenal; and other members of my family and friends. To put these events in perspective, I have relied on many newspaper articles, and researched the family's written records of births, weddings and deaths.'

Through the years Otto and Carrie Steffler made their home in Plentywood, Montana; Redstone, Montana; Fortuna, North Dakota; Bertha, Minnesota; Dooley, Montana; and Crosby, North Dakota.
