Jerry Goff was the son of a Church of God (Cleveland, TN) minister and was a member of the Full Gospel Fellowship of Churches and Ministers International.

Before starting his own group, Jerry and the Singing Goffs, Jerry Goff toured with the Thrasher Brothers as trumpet player. He was also a featured vocalist on selected songs.
