Description:

Alfred Goodrich Garr, Sr. (1874-1944) was an early Pentecostal missionary, evangelist, and pastor and was one of the first to be baptized in the Spirit at the Azusa St. Mission. After his baptism, he and his wife, Lillian, left for India. They served in India, Japan and Hong Kong and returned to the US in 1911. After the death of Lillian (1916) he married Hanna Erickson in 1919. In 1930 Garr established a church in Charlotte, North Carolina, which had grown out of a revival he had conducted. It became known as Garr Auditorium and later as Garr Memorial Church. It was one of the best-known Pentecostal churches in the Southeast. At his death in 1944, his wife and son, Alfred G. Garr, Jr. pastored the church. Alfred Goodrich Garr, Jr. (1911-2004) was a singer, World War II hero, an evangelist and pastor. He and his wife, Meryle, traveled in world-wide ministry with AG evangelists Willard and Verna Cantelon. He and Cantelon established a TV studio, 'Missions Televised.' where they produced missionary films that could be shown in churches or televised.
