Description:

The church began as the Apostolic Pentecostal Independent Church in Atlanta in 1916. It affiliated with the Assemblies of God about 1944 and became known as Washington Street Assembly of God. The church moved to a new location on Boulevard Street in 1961 and took the name Assembly of God Tabernacle. In 1984, the church moved to a new location in Decatur, GA.

Pastors have included: Paul Barth (1916-1942), L. G. Gilmore (1942-1946), James Mayo (1946-1976), Jerry Bray (son-in-law of James Mayo) (1976-1990), Cory Baker (1991-1993), Roger Brumbalow (1993-2002), Sam Mayo (son of James Mayo) (2003-2011).
