Title:

Pentecost : the promise of power.

Publisher:

Springfield, MO : Michael Cardone Media Center, May 24, 1996.

Format:

114 mins.

Description:

Produced by the Michael Cardone Media Center in conjunction with Creative Edge Communications.

Pentecost: The Promise of Power dramatizes the Holy Spirit's biblical entry into 1st-century Jerusalem. The program then examines 20th-century testimonies from transformed individuals who have encountered the Holy Spirit in personally revealing ways. A former cocaine addict turned minister and a nearly-divorced couple who rip up their divorce papers in front of a cheering congregation are among the life stories featured. Another segment portrays reconciliation in the racially divided town of Des Moines, Iowa. Among the personal interest stories is a look at Vic Caruso, former Las Vegas bellman. Caruso tells about his close, personal encounter with the Holy Spirit in his living room. Now leading a Midnight Watch service to 'touch them where they are,' Vic ministers to those he used to do drugs with and leads a marriage class of over 100 couples. 'I would never believe that God would take a dirtball like me and have me be teaching these guys,' Caruso says. Mark Bishop changes his plans to surprise his unsuspecting wife with a divorce. 'I should have been dead a hundred times over--by overdoses, from accidents, but God had a purpose for me,' Bishop shares. The Rev. Jeff Brawner, host of the broadcast, poses the question, 'What difference does Pentecost make today?' Members of the Assemblies of God, including General Superintendent Thomas Trask, answer that question. Trask compares the Holy Spirit's power to a car being upgraded from 8 cylinders to 12 cylinders. 'It's an added dimension of power that gives us the enabling to live above the norm of the Christian life,' he says. Dr. Del Tarr, president of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, explains, 'I can expect, when the Holy Spirit comes upon me...an unction, a power, an inner glow, a guidance so I'll know when to say what, to make an effect in people's lives.'
