Title:

Correspondence relating to the death of Wesley Parker.

Format:

6 leaves ; 28 cm.

Description:

Wesley Parker, an 11-year-old boy, died in 1973 after his parents, Lawrence and Alice Parker, withheld medical help. The parents, who attended First Assembly of God (Barstow, CA), claimed they rejected medicine because of their belief in faith healing. They were convicted of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse. A judge overturned the conviction in 1978. The story was widely reported in the media.

This file consists of materials distributed by Assemblies of God leaders in response to Wesley Parker's death, including: correspondence from Gary Nash, pastor of First Assembly of God (Barstow, CA); William H. Robertson, superintendent of the Southern California District; Arthur Parsons, superintendent of the Ohio District. Also includes copy of a news clip.
