Description:

Clay W. England (1911-1993) and Ruth Talla England (1906-2006) married in 1933. Clay was a Methodist minister in the 1940s. After disagreement with a Methodist bishop, Clay enrolled in and graduated from Asbury Seminary in about 1950. The Englands moved to Missouri in about 1951. In about 1952 or 1953 they identified with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS) movement, because they liked its emphasis on eschatology, revelations from God, and prophetic messages. Clay and Ruth both claimed to have visions from God, which started after they joined the RLDS movement. In 1960, the Church of Christ with the Elijah Message (a RLDS splinter group) recognized Clay as an evangelist. By the late 1960s, they became somewhat independent but operated within the broader RLDS tradition. In the 1970s, they were influenced by Pentecostals, they affirmed various Pentecostal beliefs and practices, and they began attending the Rich Hill Assembly of God (Rich Hill, MO). In the 1970s they began publishing and distributing their visions in books and traveled to various countries as missionaries. They continued to affirm of the validity of LDS scriptures, which created some distance between them and mainstream Pentecostals. Ruth was a member of the Rich Hill AG until her death.
