Missionary letters: 1936-1957

Hilda (1899-1999) and Edna (1901-1958) Wagenknecht were sisters who both ministered as Assemblies of God missionaries to India. Hilda went to the field in 1922, Edna in 1927. For several years they labored together at the Assemblies of God Girls' School and Orphanage in Bettiah, Northern India. In 1936, Edna left Bettiah to work in the newly established North India District Bible School at Hardoi. She remained there until ill health forced her to return to the States in 1957. She passed away in 1958. Hilda remained on the field until 1960. She remained active in ministry in her home church nearly until her death in 1999. The July 23, 1995 Pentecostal Evangel contains an interview with her, documenting her ministry.

The letters in this folder 1, though written individually, were all sent to one family/church in Blue Grass, ND (Mr. & Mrs. Rudolph Peltz, Full Gospel Church). Some of the letters are written specifically to the recipients, while others are form letters. They contain news of the two schools at which the sisters worked and of the individual missionaries.
