A HUMBLE STREET CLEANER FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF SANITATION, THE REVEREND EUSTACHIO PAOLICELLI, SHOWN ABOVE IN SPEAKING POSE, WILL BE CONSECRATED A BISHOP OF THE CHURCH OF GOD, SUNDAY, MAY 5, BUT WILL REMAIN A STREET CLEANER, CONTINUING THE ROUNDS HE STARTED IN THE BROWNSVILLE SECTION OF BROOKLYN, N.Y., 12 YEARS AGO. HIS ELEVATION WILL MAKE HIM THE SUPREME AUTHORITY OVER ABOUT 400 PROTESTANT CHURCHES WORSHIPING IN THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE. FOR SEVERAL YEARS THE REV. PAOLICELLI HAS BEEN PASTOR OF A BROOKLYN CHURCH. HE HAD A 'SPECIAL DISPENSATION' FROM THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT WHICH ENABLED HIM TO CARRY ON HIS CHURCH WORK WHEN NOT BUSY AT HIS WORK FOR THE CITY. REV. PAOLICELLI, WHO WILL BE 38 ON THE DAY OF HIS CONSECRATION, WAS BORN IN ITALY AND CAME TO THE U.S. IN 1915. HE WAS A BOOTBLACK AND A NEWSBOY BEFORE JOINING THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT.
