John Robert Stevens was ordained by the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel in 1937. He transferred his ordination to the AG in 1949, but was dropped as a minister in 1951 after he became associated with the Latter Rain movement. In 1951, he founded Grace Chapel (South Gate, CA), which grew into a fellowship of churches, known as 'The Walk' or the Church of the Living Word. Later, this became known as the Living Word Fellowship.

Stevens established a School of the Prophets as a personal training method for 'ministries'--those who would be leading and ministering in the churches of the organization. The booklets in this series comprise the lessons used in that training.

Title varies: The school of prophets is most common; School of the prophets appears on many earlier printings; Some have subtitle, The school of ministers; A few early printings have title, Ministry school.

In the holdings list, each 'Lesson' constitutes a separate booklet.
