Title:

Correspondence : 1926-2002 : Appalachian District Council.

Format:

6 folders.

Description:

The Appalachian District was formed at Ronda, West Virginia, on June 14, 1921. The region had formerly been a part of the Maryland District. Southwestern Virginia became part of the district in July of 1923. At that time the district was known as the Southwest Virginia, Western West Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky District. In 1929 the name was changed to the Appalachian District Council. In August 1935 Kentucky withdrew and became a district of its own. In September of 1935 the western part of North Carolina became a part of the district and remained until August 1944 when it withdrew to become part of the North Carolina District. That left Western West Virginia and South Western Virginia to form the Appalachian District. These boundaries continue to exist today.

These folders include: a folder labeled, “Appalachian District Matters (M. B. Netzel)”; a folder labeled, “Emmett Hinkley”; reports of offerings received from ministers; annual questionnaires for ordained preachers; minutes of the special session of the Eastern District Council (Oct 28-29, 1943); a program for the Bristol Preaching Mission (Feb 12-19, 1950); brochures; lists of ministers who have not yet renewed; a resolution passed by the District Council, concerning boundary lines; a report of a special called session (Dec 16, 1966); and Appalachian District School of Ministry materials.
