St. John's Apostolic Faith Mission church was founded by Mother Mokotuli Christinah Nku in the early 1930s. She left the predominantly white Apostolic Faith Church and started St. John's, a church focused on healing in a way that blended the signs, symbols, and practices of her own Sotho culture and those borrowed from Protestant Christianity. St. John's is an independent African church that blends Christian symbols and practices into well-established precolonial religious systems.
