Pastor Winfield Showell and the church (known both as First Apostolic Institutional Church and First Apostolic Faith Church) were part of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW). In 1957, Showell was one of the founding bishops of the Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ Worldwide. That organization would later split. Showell's son, Cornelius Showell would serve as one of the presiding bishops of International Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
