Marjoe was a documentary which examined the life of child prodigy evangelist Marjoe Gortner. It then looked at his ministry as a young adult when he admitted preaching only for the money. Gortner provided narration and comments, as well as scenes from his preaching.
This film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1972.
At top, 'A real story millions of people refuse to believe.' Below this is a large photo of a close shot of part of Marjoe's face (with mouth open as speaking). Below this, 'You've never seen a movie like it, Marjoe.' At bottom, in smaller print, 'Produced and directed by Howard Smith and Sarah Kernochan. Executive producer Max Palevsky. A CineVest-MaxPal production. A Cinema 5 release.'
Marjoe's father, Vernon Gortner, had been ordained with the Assemblies of God. Marjoe was the grandson of AG minister, J. Narver Gortner.
