Description: Former President Eisenhower (left) places a donation for Hong Kong refugees in the 'share-bank' of Jimmie Tom, a second grader at Commodore Stockton School, Chinatown; 1962. Standing behind Tom is John McConnell, the coordinator for the Citizens Committee for Hong Kong Refugees. Ten thousand of these small milk carton share-banks were donated by five dairies. School children take them home, drop in 3 cents every time they wish to invite a hungry unseen guest to dinner. This was part of the San Francisco Meals for Millions campaign.
