Description: Press photo of Rev. Oliver G. (Jerry) Owen, evangelist, known as the 'Walking Bible'; May 1950.
Oliver B. (Jerry) Owen (1913-1993) was briefly credentialed with the Northern California District of the AG, but withdrew in 1938 after being accused of immorality. He went on to become a prominent independent evangelist in Pentecostal and evangelical circles. His father was Benjamin F. Owen, a Church of the Brethren minister who transfered to the AG and taught at Glad Tidings Bible Institute (San Francisco, CA). Jerry Owen, a former college football player and prize fighter, was advertised as 'The Walking Bible' because of his ability to quote Scripture. Two issues of the AG Ministers Letter (Sep 30, 1940 and Feb 18, 1955) recounted difficulties with Owen.
Photograph is stamped on the back with a date of May 24, 1950.
