J. D. (Jesse Douglas) Smith, an Afro-American Pentecostal, founded the Church of God Mission Society, Inc., which was incorporated in 1931. The church grew and established congregations across the United States. In 1946, the Church of God Mission Society, Inc. had 93 credentialed ministers. The name was changed in 1958 to Revival Center Church. The church affiliated with the Church of God in Christ in the 1950s or 1960s.
