Commemorative plate : First Assembly of God (Santa Paula, CA)

Publisher:

Covington, TN : World Wide Art Studios [1963?]

Format:

1 plate : some col. ; 26 cm. diameter.

Description:

On plate: Artist's drawing of the church and printed underneath: First Assembly of God Church, Corner 8th and Ventura Streets, Santa Paula, California. The plate is white; the drawing and lettering are in red. It is bordered in white raised fruit with a gold rim.

On back of plate: FIRST ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH, Corner 8th and Ventura Streets, Santa Paula, California. ERECTED, May 21, 1950. This edifice was constructed in 3 months and 14 days by 50% donated labor of the church membership. This edifice testifies to faith in God for 65 members for whom God answered prayer and granted this house of worship. This church was built under the ministry of Rev. and Mrs. Paul M. Wells. BOARD OF DEACONS: J. Countryman, J. Brady, D. Lacey, W. Hampton, W. Guthrie. BOARD OF TRUSTEES: W. Ward, B. Wells, M. Hite. ANNEX SHERI HALL ERECTED, 1959. FORMER PASTORS: N.D. Davidson, Founder in 1929, First Pastor; Clarence W. Pix, 1932 to 1924; Gerald Furman, 1934 to 1935; S.W. Squiers, 1935 to 1936; Joseph Clark, 1936 to 1940; Arthur Knowles, 1940; James Ming, 1940 to 1944; T.S. Singleton, 1944 to 1949; Paul M. Wells, 1949 to 1961. PRESENT PASTOR: Rev. and Mrs. Jack D. Countryman. 'Distinctively Pentecostal.'

This plate lists Paul Wells as pastor until 1961, with Jack Countryman listed as the 'present pastor.' However, Paul Wells continued as pastor of this church until about 1987. It appears that Jack Countryman served as an interim pastor for a period of time about 1963 (perhaps while Paul Wells was more involved in national and international revival campaigns).
