The Church of God Orphanage opened and welcomed its first orphan, Letha Dally, on December 17, 1920. Originally located in Cleveland, Tennessee, this orphanage relocated to Sevierville, Tennessee, in 1949, on property formerly occupied by the Church of God Bible Training School. At that time it was called the Church of God Orphanage. In 1962, the name of the Home was officially changed to Church of God Home for Children. Eventually it was renamed Smoky Mountain Children's Home.
