Title:

Shoes of Mark Buntain.

Format:

1 pair of shoes

Description:

A pair of well-worn shoes which belonged to Mark Buntain, missionary to India and mission/church leader in Calcutta (Kolkata).

Mark and Huldah Buntain began missionary work in Calcutta in 1954. In addition to the establishment of a church, they were involved in many humanitarian ministries, including health care. A clinic had been established by the early 1970s, leading to the building of a 120 bed hospital in 1977. Other ministries included schools, orphanages, and feeding programs.

Rev. Dwain Jones (1938-2016) was an Assemblies of God pastor and missionary. He then served several years as the national director of AG Men's Ministries and Light for the Lost. He left the national offices to pastor an AG church in Chickasha, Oklahoma, thinking this would be his final area of ministry.

Following the death of Mark Buntain in 1989, Dwain Jones was called on to serve as a field representative for Mission of Mercy (later called Calcutta Mercy Ministries), the U.S. development and operational ministry for the ongoing work in Calcutta.

Huldah Buntain, Mark's widow, gave this pair of shoes to Dwain Jones. He often used the shoes as an object lesson while raising funds for the Calcutta ministries.

Following the death of Dwain Jones, his son gave the shoes to Rev. Glenn Mangrum, an AG pastor in Texas. Rev. Mangrum sent the shoes to the FPHC.

Provenance verified via phone call with Glenn Mangrum, 27 Sept 2022.

Shoes are Rockport brand; RocSports style; black leather uppers; Vibram Morflex soles. No indication of size remains.
