Description:

Vep Ellis, Jr., is the son of Vep Ellis, legendary singer-songwriter who was a longtime minister with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). Ellis, Sr., also served several years as soloist and musical director for Oral Roberts crusades and was a founding board member of Oral Roberts University.

Vep Ellis, Jr., served as an Associate Pastor/Minister of Music at Sheridan Assembly of God from 1965 to 1978. He then served as Dean of Music at the Rhema Bible Training Center (now Rhema Bible College) for 6 years. Ellis returned to the church, then known as Sheridan Christian Center, as senior pastor in 1984. He served in that capacity for 33 years until his retirement in 2017.

The church was started by Glenn Millard in 1951 as Sheridan (Road) Assembly of God. The church left the Assemblies around 1969 and continued as a major Pentecostal/charismatic center in Tulsa. Several other Tulsa ministries began within this church.

During the pastoral tenure of Vep Ellis, Jr., Sheridan Christian Center rejoined the Assemblies of God in 2007. Ellis received AG ordination (which he still carries). The church withdrew from the AG about 2018 after his retirement.

Also included in the file is an additional article regarding Ellis and the church: 'Sheridan Christian Center breeds spiritual success' / by Kathy Tucker (Tulsa World, 1 December 1993, 2 p.).
