M. E. (Mahlon E.) Layne, an active A/G layman, provided funds for the establishment of the Layne Hospitality Home of San Diego in 1941. The home served as a temporary residence for Navy men who desired to be in a Christian environment while on leave. The home housed thirty men. Retired A/G pastor Irvin Rattan and his wife Bertha served as the first directors of the home.
The home news is an occasional publication by Howard and Marge Marshall for those who were influenced by the Layne Hospitality Home of San Diego. Place of publication changed to Klawock, Alaska with issue 6 (Aug 1999).
