Bethany Bible College began in 1919, at the Glad Tidings Tabernacle in San Francisco, California. Founded by Robert and Mary Craig, the school was named Glad Tidings Bible Institute. It was the first endorsed Assemblies of God school of higher learning. In 1950, the school relocated to Santa Cruz County and in 1954 it was incorporated with the state of California under the name of Bethany Bible College. In 1990, the name changed to Bethany College of the Assemblies of God; in 2005 the name changed to Bethany University of the Assemblies of God. The school closed its doors in 2011.
