Description:

Atom bomb test under water at Bikini, the in the Marshall Islands. The Baker Day explosion of the atom bomb--the fifth in history--as recorded by an automatically operated camera on a nearby island. The column of water, about 2000 feet across at its base, and 5000 feet high, had begun to fall when this photo was made.
