Issues 1-9 were 'Seaman’s edition' and ranged in size from (22-46 cm.).

This publication and its successor, 'The lower light,' may have been specifically directed toward sailors. The Apostolic Faith Mission carried out an extensive evangelistic effort geared toward sailors along the northern Pacific coast, both civilian and military. They even operated ships, called The Morning Star and The Lower Light, for evangelization among ship crews and coastal residents.

During the entire run, only 1 issue is dated (no. 17 is Nov/Dec 1939). The first issue appears to be 1923. For most of the run, apparently only 1 issue was published each year. Later, there may have been 2 per year. The final issue (no. 31) was published in 1947 or 1948.
